Red Nose Leather
The obsession with knives and tools came very natural to me with my fascination of the outdoors and my grandfather being a knife collector and maker. My grandfather is not with us anymore but I feel his passion with me every time I use a knife or make a sheath. It didn’t take long to realize that factory sheaths left a lot to be desired, some were okay but who really stops at “okay” when you’re passionate about something? I started making leather sheaths from a kit that was in my grandfather’s collection, after that I ordered a whole hide and went to work. I quickly realized that I had very high standards for leather work and if those standards weren’t met, that piece became scrap and I moved on to the next one.
Most knife enthusiasts are pretty particular on what they want in a knife and about ten times more particular on what they want in a sheath, and rightfully so, you are the only one that knows what works for you and how your kit should be setup. Having similar interests and requirements about my knives and sheaths I am very eager to talk to the customer and figure out exactly what they want because I want them to be 100% satisfied with their sheath. And I enjoy talking about knives and the outdoors! I am a department manager at a big outdoor retailer, so whether I am at work or enjoying my free time I am appreciating the outdoors. It is not uncommon to put in over 40 hours there and with leather taking time I cannot crank out as many sheaths as I would like but my turn around time is usually pretty decent. I named my work after my Red-Nosed Pit Bull because I believe the breed is the strongest, most loyal and determined breed there is. I want to carry those traits into my work.
