Beardology Cedarwood Sage Beard Oil & Balm

Beardology is a small company out of Cleveland, Ohio that hand makes all its beard oil, balm and wash from local suppliers.  Their website, www.beardology.co, is rather informative and gives some good descriptions of their scents (more on that later).  The particular oil and balm I sampled was their Cedarwood Sage.

I choose the Cedarwood Sage in an attempt to relive a trip out to northern Wyoming last summer.  During the hikes I took wild sage grew everywhere and I was constantly picking a sprig and smelling it.  Although this the Cedarwood Sage did not bring back the memories I was hoping for, I did find it pleasant.

The beard oil is of a medium thickness, yet it does soak in after a bit.  I did not find that when using five or so drops that it made my beard greasy or oily looking at all.  And after using it for a while I know that it is doing its job conditioning my beard and keeping my skin itch free.  After all, isn’t that the reason we use beard oil?

The balm has a base made out of the following ingredients: Castor Seed Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Lauryl Laurate, Olive Oil, Beeswax, Carnauba Wax, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Candelilla Wax.  Added to that would be the essential oils needed for the scent.  Now balm acts as a conditioner also, however, I find that I like it more for its ability to make by beard look nicely groomed.  Yes, I said I care about how my beard looks.  I can’t spend all my days running in the woods like a wild man, I actually have to work for a living.  The fact that beard balm helps tame those wild beard hairs that never want to lay flat is rather convenient.   As an added bonus it helps keep my wife from asking me to trim it up a bit.

Beardology’s balm is a nice solid balm, easily removable using your finger nail as a small scraper.   Then putting the dab of balm in the palm and after rubbing your hands together rapidly for a few seconds, it quite easily is applied to your beard.  By the way, they have matched the scents of the Cedarwood Sage Oil and Balm rather well.

As to the scents, they quiet down within a reasonable time, therefore, not noticible after an hour or so.  As noted earlier, Beardology does offer a description of some of their more unique scents they offer as well as what some of the essential oils they use are known for.  What I really appreciate is that when they use a fragrance oil like say in their Tobacco Scent, they let you know and know that it cannot therefore be labeled 100% natural.  I really do appreciate truth in everything.

All in all this is a good quality oil and balm made by a couple in Cleveland who have decided to make a go at supporting their small family through helping others enjoy their beards.  Can’t ask for more than that.

Good health to your beard,

Dick
