Mad Viking Beard Co. Laderrock Beard Oil

When you look at a beard oil what do you want to find?  One that is not too thick?  One that is all natural?  One that protects and softens your beard? All of the above, right?

Well that is what you get in Mad Viking’s Laderrock beard oil.

Let’s start with the ingredients.  As per the bottle the ingredients are as follows: Almond oil, Apricot Kernel oil, Virgin Argan oil, Avocado oil, Grapeseed oil, Hempseed oil, Jojoba oil and Vitamin E oil; Scented with – Birch oil, Juniper oil, Vanilla oil,  Cade oil, Cassie oil, Myrtle oil, Cistus Labdanum Absolute oil.

Now there is no labeling everything as certified organic, but that is fine with me.  The important thing here is that the beard oil is pure oil with no added artificial ingredients or scents added.  Now, I’m not sure how long it took them to figure out how to get the leather scent by using the listed oils, however, they nailed it.  Think of a well-worn leather jacket.  Not stale or musty smelling at all.  We are talking just pure fresh leather that has been out in the sun on a brisk fall afternoon.  Ok, I know, to romantic for you.  But that is kind of the point.  This oil smells like leather, like a man and yet, at the same time, my wife loves it.  Mad Viking makes it so it is not overpowering and eventually fades after a few hours.  For me I only put it on in the morning after a shower, my wife smiles when I kiss her goodbye and tells me I smell good.  Wish that scent was still there when I got home.  Yeah, scent wise this oil is a keeper in our house.

What do I mean by too thick?  Well I want a light beard oil (this one is light in color too) that soaks in and does not look like I just dipped my beard in a vat of olive oil.   The idea here is to condition the beard (and to smell good), not to look greasy or oily.  Laderrock hits on all cylinders here too.  Very light, and pleasant to use.  After I oil my beard I don’t need to wash my hands, whatever is left disappears, soaking in to the skin.  I simply use the dropper to apply a drop or two straight to the skin just under my chin and then put about four or five drops in the palm of my hand.  Rub my hands together and then start running them through my beard.  Done, nice and easy.

As for conditioning and protection, well I only know what I can subjectively feel and that is that this oil plain works.  Outside, in the elements, my beard would tend to be dry and a bit brittle.  About a week in I had a noticeable difference in the feel of my beard.  I could tell it was less brittle and softer.  Really it felt healthier and I know that is weird to say, but, it did.

I only found two drawbacks to this review.  First, I am now running very low on Laderrock.  Second, I should have ordered the Laderrock Beard Balm to review too.  Oh well, live and learn.  Anyway, if you have a beard and you like the scent of leather you owe it to yourself to try some Mad Viking Laderrock beard oil.  If you don’t like the scent of leather, then check out their other scents (or unscented) as I am sure I will eventually.

Good health to your beard,

Dick
