5.11 Rush 12 Daypack Review
This is another product overview, since this pack is new and I have not thoroughly tested it I am just going over some of the selling point of the pack to give you a bit more of an informed opinion on it and I will be coming back to it at a later date to do a full review of it.
The pack is very well made for its price range all stress points have reinforced stitching and even the MOLLE webbing is triple stitched on each loop a feature I have not seen on some other packs in this price range the webbing is very solid and will likely take any beating you give to it. The pack is sort of heavy for its size this is due to the heavy construction and 1000 denier ballistic nylon. But it is a compact pack and the weight isn't too noticeable on the back thanks to a comfortable yoke that does chafe on the neck and sits nicely on your shoulders. The pack has attachments for a belt if you wish to add one but it is not included with the pact but in a pack this size it really isn't an issue.
The organization is quite nice with a front pocket that would neatly house all your everyday carry items, and mesh pockets in the main compartment that allow you to see what is inside to know where everything is at. There is also a fleece lined pocket at the top of the pack to store your sunglasses in and a second pocket in the front that would be great for quick to grab items like a power bar or something similar.
The main compartment is large enough to hold a change of clothes and a rain jacket, just the right size for a day hike, and there is a pocket for a hydration bladder along with routing for the tube. The frame sheet is removeable but there isn't much need to take it out is is a supreme pain to get back in and weighs next to nothing. The shoulder straps both unclip and you can get out of the pack in a real hurry if you wish to and the buckles are held down with an elastic band to keep the noise down.
There are two spots for Velcro morale patches and a name tag if you wish and it does have compression straps though I am not a huge fan of them as the only compress the top of the pack and most the bulk is at the bottom anyways. Frankly if they were not there I wouldn't shed a tear over it.
However this seems like a rock solid pack in a price range where you have a lot of competition and I am looking forward to testing it out and seeing how it hold up over the rest of time.
Again I will return to this at a later date when I can truly say I have some experience with the pack to give my final opinions but I did own a Rush 24 for quite some time and found it to be a great pack do I would definitely give this one a look if you are shopping.
